Table mounted stands are requested as a product for Mythic Crafts to make as often as trestles are - so here they are! After looking at similar products on the market, we wanted to make sure they were really sturdy and easy to lock in place.

Locking Levers

The table stand has lever handles on all the joints and on the frame and table clamps, so locking anything down is very low effort and does not require any special tools. Just hold the joint in the position you want, then close the lever.

Made from a laminate of Walnut and European Beech, they are stylish and strong, there's a steel insert where the bolt attaches so it won't break or wear out.

Rubber Pads

Soft Clamping Jaws

Part of the design goal was to ensure that no frame or table would be harmed by the use of the clamp. Since there are no off-the-shelf rubber pieces that fit the requirements for the table stand, moulds have been designed so they can be hand cast by Mythic Crafts! A urethane rubber about the same hardness of a car tyre will be used on your table stand which will not mark, discolour or stain any surface you clamp. As a bonus, the rubber pads are grippy so nothing will slip or slide.

Universal Frame Clamp

Table Stand Clamp Head

The frame clamp will hold the end bar or sidebar of any frame Mythic Crafts makes.  The unique step design gives you 4 strong and secure clamp thicknesses to lock the frame down with. Rubber pads on the jaws hold your frame softly, and won't mark fabric you have on your frame. The clamp head is actually made up of 7 pieces of wood to ensure it's as strong as possible!

Extension Arm

Table Stand Extension Clamp

Included as standard, the extension arm lets you move your frame to more interesting angles and positions than can be achieved by mounting the clamp head directly into the table clamp. A slot runs up the middle of the extension arm, which can mount future accessories or the clamp head itself. The ends of each piece are standardised, so you can join multiple extension arms together or mount them into the slot for those future accessories (like lights!)

Table Thickness: 16mm - 50mm (5/8" to 2")

Angle of Frame (no extension arm): -34° to 155°

Extension Arm Length: 119mm (4 5/8") mounting hole to mounting hole.

Finish: Burnished Danish Oil

Name/Message Engraving

To have a name or message engraved on this frame, please select the "Name or Message" option. Typically we use the "Great Vibes" font for engravings, other calligraphic fonts we have tried tend to have a poor "s" character in both capitals and lower case. You're welcome to specify any "free for commercial use" font you wish, however keep in mind that bolder fonts show up a lot better than narrower fonts. Font Squirrel is a great place to look at fonts, as all of them are free!

Logo/Graphic Engraving

You can also have a logo, picture or even full width artwork engraved by selecting the logo option for engraving, I'll work with you after the purchase to ensure your artwork is suitable. Any greyscale image or black and white image can be engraved. Keep in mind that the total height of the engraving is a maximum of about 18mm (just less than 3/4") - that being said, we can engrave a huge amount of detail in that height very accurately.

All holes are precision drilled with a computer controlled drill which ensures the frame will not be lopsided, and that the holes are exactly the same distance apart on both ends. The mortises for the side bars to fit through are also precision machined with just enough tolerance to allow for finish thickness, and the expansion of the wood at different humidity and temperature.

Tight fitting steel cotter pins are used rather than wooden dowels. These last much longer, are easier to find replacements for if you lose one, and are much less likely to fall out. The pins fit within the holes on the side bars snugly, so they will not fall out or vibrate loose during travel or long term storage. Each pin is hand ground so it's less likely to scratch your work surface or catch threads/fabric.

To protect the wood, several coats of Danish Oil are allowed to soak into and cure in the wood, which stabilises the wood and makes it much tougher to resist dents and marking as well as visually bringing out the grain. The danish oil cures for several weeks to ensure it is fully hardened. Next several coats of extremely hard urethane gloss coating is applied, typically used for high traffic outdoor wood floors. This coating prevents any oils on your hands, moisture or dirt from making its way into the wood and being transferred onto your fabric, as well as preventing discolouration/damage of the wood from UV light if the frame is left near a window. The danish oil and urethane coatings are applied in an industrial paint spray booth to greatly reduce the amount of dust and other particles trapped in the finishes.

These frames are made and finished to retain their quality through generations.

In short, your fabric must be narrower than the Working Area Width of the frame, usually by at least 30mm (1 ¼"). Your fabric can be longer than the length, however, if you're working with fragile threads (eg: Goldwork), beads (eg: Couture), or raised work (eg: Stumpwork) your project should fit within the maximum length.

All of our frames list their "working area" in the description, here's a direct comparison. The width is considered between the two Side (Stretcher) Bars and the length between the Top/Bottom (Roller) Bars.
